|Welcome to our new information pages that we hope will help you understand what you need to run common household or office items using solar or wind energy.
Over the coming weeks we'll be looking at the feasibility of using renewable energy to power televisions, computers, fridges, heaters, pumps, lighting, office equipment (servers and printers etc.) If it's possible and sensible we'll show you how. It it's not we'll tell you why and suggest alternatives that have been expressly designed to work using solar panels.
Living off grid and being energy independent is a necessity for some people and for others it's a way of life they aspire to. So whether it's your dream or your survival it's important to be realistic about what you can and can't do with solar/wind power.
A lot of people don't realise that it can be cheaper to change your appliances for super efficient versions instead of buying extra solar panels or batteries. A good example of this is a fridge/freezer. A solar fridge freezer uses substantially less power than a normal one. So we'll kick this new section off by starting with the Fridge / Freezer.
