Producing & selling electricity in France It's possible to store the electricity produced by solar panels in batteries for later use but this can be expensive, so why not just sell it?
The local electricity company won't buy it unless it's made compatible with their grid by using what's know as a Grid Tie Inverter. They'll also need to measure your electricity production using an export meter. The diagram below illustrates the flow of electricity to and from a house/building with solar panels.
EDF will currently commit to a 20 year contract to purchase electricity produced by a professionally installed system, and they'll pay up to half a euro for each kilowatt hour. Combine that with tax and grants that could fund 50% of the cost, and it's starting to look like quite a good investment
A well designed, south facing system could earn 2000 Euros a year. Multiply that by 20 years, subtract the 12K to have it installed, and that's a whopping 28K potential profit or free electricity for a very long time!
So what's the catch? Well, there really isn't one apart from the fact we reckon they can't do this forever so it's seriously worth considering now!
